Belgaum, officially known as Belagavi is a city in the Indian state ofKarnataka. It is the administrative headquarters of the eponymous Belgaum division and Belgaum district.
As per the provisional 2011 India census, the population of Belagavi is 588,292, and its urban / metropolitan population is 610,189.Males constitute 51% (309,689) of the population and females 49% (300,500). Belagavi has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 65%; of those literate, 54% are males and 46% are females. Eleven percent of the population is under 6 years of age
