Dum Dum is a populated municipality now corporation under Barrakpore Commissionaire April 2015 by Smt Mamata Banerjee Chief Minister West Bengal near north Kolkata. It comes under Barrackpore sub-division and North 24 Parganas district of the state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.
The 2011 India census reported that Dum Dum had a population of 117,637. The gender ratio was 927 females per 1000 males and 5.7 percent of the population was under six years of age. Effective literacy was 93.51 percent; male literacy was 94.09 percent and female literacy was 92.88 percent.
