Khandwa is a City and a Nagar Nigam in the Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the administrative headquarters ofKhandwa District, formerly known as East Nimar District.
As of 2011 India census, Khandwa had a population of 171,986. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Khandwa has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 66%. In Khandwa, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
